George E. Preddy, Jr, Tarheel native from Greensboro, was on his way to becoming the leading ace in Europe when tragedy struck. General John C. Meyer, who was the fourth ranking American ace in the ETO (European Theater of Operations) and Preddy's squadron commander for more than a year, wrote: "I have never met a man of... such intense desire to excel.... George Preddy was the complete fighter pilot."
George Preddy was the leading active ace in the European Theater of Operations when killed by Allied ground fire. He is the top Air Force ace from the Southern United States, the top Mustang ace, and ranks sixth among Air Force aces, and seventh among American aces. While leading the 328th Fighter Squadron of the 352nd Fighter Group, he was downed by friendly fire during the Battle of the Bulge on Christmas Day 1944 near Langerwehe, Germany.
This is the highly acclaimed documentary of America's highest scoring P-51 Mustang ace of World War II, Major George E. Preddy, Jr. While amassing his record breaking score of 31,83 combat victories, he set an unbelievable single mission record by destroying 6 enemy fighter aircraft in less than 6 minutes. Witness the action packed career of one of the 8th Air Force's deadliest and most decorated fighter pilots to it's unforgettable conclusion. Skillfully presented through his own gun camera film, exclusive, previously unpublished 352nd Fighter Group film and recollections of his fellow squadron mates.
Featuring flying sequences by Kermit Weeks in his prize winning P-51D restored in the markings of Preddy's "Cripes-A-Mighty 3rd".
Written and produced by Joseph Noah, Sam Sox and John Lambeth.
